How long have you been on DeviantArt?

I’ve been on DeviantART since January of 2004. I was still in high school at the time, graduating later that May. I’ve made several attempts to join DeviantART but they wouldn’t allow AOL email. What does your username mean?

My first username was “Perreault” because it was my last name. Sensing that was a bad idea, I changed it to “RyanEchidnaSEAL” because ‘Ryan’ is my first name, ‘echidna’ is my fursona species, and my fursona (as well as what I really wanted to be in real-life) is a Navy SEAL.

Describe yourself in three words.

Character. Gung-ho. Pleasing.

Are you left or right handed?

Right-handed.

What was your first deviation?

My first deviation is a sketch of an F/A-18C Hornet launching from an aircraft carrier. I based it off of a picture in one of my books. At the time I was uploading old artwork. My first new piece of artwork I created after joining deviantART was a sketch of Sonic the Hedgehog like the Terminator, mimicking the original poster.

What is your favourite type of art to create?

I like creating CG digital art because that’s the modern-age of art. I still enjoy my sketches and pencil works.

If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?

Definitely 3-Dimentional art and animation using 3D Studio Max and Unreal game engines. I took professional classes using them, but I have yet to be an expert at them, especially compared to most other artists out there.

What was your first favourite?

My first favorite is gone, but I remember what it was. It was a picture of Chibi Usa sitting on the toilet, reading a book, and she’s upset because there’s no toilet paper. It’s gone though.

What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?

Anything that fits my current mood. I’ll be in a Sonic mood, then a SWAT Kats mood, Disney’s Robin Hood mood, Maugrim the wolf mood, Mickey Mouse mood My Little Pony mood, anything really. Look through my favorites and you’ll see a variety of pictures. Find the date of when I favorited it and you’ll know what mood I was in at the time.

Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?

That’s like asking a parent who their favorite child is. I’ll say that when I first started, I met some really great artists who became close friends of mine, and (the latter I’ve known for years prior to DeviantART). Over the years I’ve met other great friends such as and many more.

If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?

I’ve actually met in real life before, but there are others I want to meet as well. I definitely want to meet and I would love to go overseas and meet but only if it’s safe for Americans to visit Malaysia. The one person I want to meet very bad, more than anybody else, would be because of so many reasons. I’ll definitely get a passport and see her!

How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?

So many impacted my life. I don’t want to answer for fear of leaving somebody out.

What are your preferred tools to create art?

When I first started doing art, my only took was a sketch pad and pencils. I’ve later advanced to using ball-point pens and colored pencils when sketching my pictures. Then I discovered digital color. I haven’t used colored pencils in years, I now sketch my images, go over the lines using needle-point pens, erase the pencils, scan it, and use the computer to colorize my pictures.

What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?

My most inspirational place is in my bedroom, I always listen to music (usually Bruce Springsteen) when drawing art. My computer desk is my favorite place to be.

What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?

Oh man, I have so many memories. The favorite ones are when I first joined and met a community waiting for me. I think other memories I have is when I was posting my weird art. I didn’t care if people hated it, it’s what made me happy. However, I was surprised when I discovered there were any other people like me. I’ve made a lot of good friends that way. Those were some of the best memories I have. I have no plans on leaving deviantART anytime soon. I’ll keep working on my art for all to enjoy!
